RCT or Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a very common dental procedure performed to treat the infected or damaged pulp inside a tooth. Here’s an overview of the root canal treatment process:

How is it diagnosed? Your dentist examines the tooth and performs diagnostic tests, such as dental X-rays, to determine the need for root canal treatment, to determine the extent of damage and ensures that root canal therapy is the appropriate treatment option.
Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth, ensuring a painless procedure.
Access and Isolation: A dental dam (a thin rubber sheet) is placed around the tooth to isolate it from the rest of the mouth, keeping it clean and dry during the procedure. An access hole is then created using burrs like our NT…….. in the tooth’s crown to reach the pulp chamber.
Pulp Removal: Using specialized instruments known as Endodontic files like our very popular NT Rainbow or NT Gold files, the dentist carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp from the pulp chamber and root canals. The canals are cleaned and shaped to facilitate effective disinfection.
Irrigation: During the cleaning process, the dentist irrigates the root canals with a disinfecting solution to remove any remaining debris and kill bacteria.
Filling: Once the canals are thoroughly cleaned, shaped and disinfected they are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha or GP. Gutta-percha, usually in the form of rubbery cones, is placed in the canals and sealed with sealers like our star product NT Biocera Bioceramic sealer to prevent further contamination.
Restoration: After the canals are repaired the access hole created in the tooth’s crown is filled with a temporary or permanent restoration, such as a filling or dental crown depending upon extend of damage.
Follow-up: In some cases, a follow-up visit is necessary to evaluate the healing process and ensure the tooth has properly sealed. This visit may involve dental X-rays to assess the repair and the success of the treatment.

It is seen that RCT success rates are generally high, but there is a small possibility of complications or treatment failure. Consulting with a qualified dentist or endodontist is essential for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan tailored to your specific dental condition.
Enjoy your RCT and regain that smile.
